All the puppies survive being born and look good at this time we’ll see how they progress over the next several days but we are shocked and happy to have seven girls and two boys. That’s a record breaker for our litter history in terms of number of girls born in a litter.
Here one of my favorite photos of Pixel. This was from back in 2013 in the UP. She is pointing a ruffed grouse, while 50 days pregnant, split bloodied tail from the aspen stand. This is a great shot of a great grouse dog in all her glory. We have a few reservations available still from this litter. Email us if interested.

Everyone is included in this photo from this morning’s huddle on the dog bed downstairs, except the old lady Rogue sleeping upstairs on the couch.

Paint River’s Pixel Levi has just come into heat so we are planning on breeding her to Paint River’s Duncan Levi in two weeks. This will be the fourth time these two great grouse dogs have been paired up and we know what to expect from these offspring. We presently are still accepting a few more reservations for males at this time on this litter. Once pups are on the ground, we will fill in what remains. Pixel historically has had large litters and is a fantastic mother. Certainly when we have done the breeding we will give more accurate timetables but right now it looks like breeding end of January, pups born beginning of April, and pups go home end of May. If interested in a pup don’t wait! Our pups move once they are born.
We’ve started to get the Llews back out on birds this week and will continue to do so until we leave for our five week hunt trip to the UP in September. The kids are looking good after their first day back to work in many months! Click on photo to enlarge and use slideshow feature.

Hi Everyone!!
So it’s been a busy week here for Paint River Llewellins!! I will try this weekend to get some individual photos of the puppies up on the site. As many of you know one of the delights of Llewellins is that they change color so much you often don’t know what you get until it’s time to pick them up!! … and sometimes your lightly speckled belton turns nearly a solid color as one of my recent puppy owners found out!! So I don’t like to guarantee any coloring on the beltons. And we have four beltons in this litter!! Over the next month it will be clear as to what colors they will be but this breeding last year and Duncan’s other breeding showed him to be very dominate in the breeding. All tri-beltons ended up being heavily ticked just like their papa!! Which I personally love.
At present the best I can tell we have a tri-color female with several patch markings, a black and white female with a face patch, a belton female, 3 belton males!!, a black and white male with nearly a full hood and a body patch, and a tri-color male with a small eye patch. All these pups are likely to get MUCH dark in the weeks ahead and that’s part of the fun of watching this breed grow!! So please be patient because before long you’ll have so many photos in your inbox you’ll have to buy more memory for your computer 🙂
Oh!! And hopefully we will have a litter theme this weekend too!!
Our precious Pixel is getting very uncomfortable as her due date nears….. 63 days is average but last year we had pups on DAY 58…. so as her pups to into position we will be waiting patiently….. well maybe not patiently 🙂
Paint River’s Pixel Levi was bred to Paint River’s Duncan Levi on 10/2/14. Ultrasound on 11/6/14 showed 5-6 puppies!! Due date is 12/4/14. Puppies going to their new homes the last week in January — first week in February. At this time this is the only litter planned until next winter so if you’ve are in the market for a Paint River pup this is your chance!!! We do the best we can to have pups born between November and February so your first hunting season with your Llewellin Setter can be a full throttle experience. Next winter we will have repeat breedings of both—Paint River’s Pixel Levi and Paint River’s Widget Levi to Paint River’s Duncan Levi. These breedings have proven to produce outstanding bird dogs. ALL parents are incredible grouse and woodcock dogs in excellent health.
