The Gizmos Litter is now 5 weeks old tomorrow and will be getting regular kitchen time, which means photos and videos several times a week! Here’s the first of many videos of these kids!!
We will start to have more regular showings of The Gizmos Litter as we move forward over the next month. At this time from The Cameras Litter we still have Leica and Canon available. Below are the Gizmos.

The Gizmos litter of Paint River’s Llewellin Setter puppies are growing fast and in another 10 days will be in the kitchen romping around just like the Cameras. Here are some photos of The Gizmos at 19 days old.

Here are Pixel with her Cameras and Widget with her Gizmos being very good mamas. All ten pups are healthy and developing nicely. Looking forward to meeting people that I have been talking to on the phone about the pups. Always wonderful to talk to people that have a love for these dogs like I do. We are nearing the stage where the Cameras will be cruising around the kitchen in the next week or so… fun, fun!!
Proud to announce our newest litter of five gorgeous Llewellin setter pups out of Paint River’s Widget by Paint River’s Duncan.

It was a long night but we made out just fine— We ended up with three boys and two girls. Our next order of business if coming up with a litter theme for these little ones! Any suggestions let me know. I can’t stand having nameless pups!!!

Last Sunday I took Widget out for her last long hunt before the puppies will be born…. she’s as big as a house the little girl!! Her brace mate was none other than Duncan. What I terrific pair!! We found four grouse and four woodcock. Duncan pointed 3 woodcock and two grouse and Widget pointed 1 woodcock and two grouse. Here are two gorgeous photos of them doing their thing. Nothing better!!

I always say….”there are dog people—and then there are bad people.” I can absolutely understand not owning a llewellin setter if you don’t hunt and or don’t have lots of space for the dog to run and hunt on it’s own around your home (property) but for those of us who view our dogs as an extension of ourselves…. well— then, you have found a great place to hang out online and read about amazing dogs with amazing abilities that are at the center of a dog person’s world.
Three things that warm my heart are: a llewellin setter giving me a hug, a llewellin setter snuggled against my body while I’m in bed watching a movie and a llewellin setter fiercely on a stunning point rock solid and as sure as the day is long. What do these things all have in common— a llewellin setter.
My first hunting season in the U.P. with my young llews could not have been more fruitful for both the dogs and myself. Nearly every time I came out of the woods from a hunt for a couple hours with one of my dogs or running a brace with Scott Lazur of Laurel Mtn. Lllewellin Setters with one of his dogs I pretty much always came out of the woods glassy eyed because it’s just so beautiful to watch these dogs do what they were born to do and do it with such style, with such grace and with such tenacity. I wear my heart on my sleeve but these dogs in incredible wilderness were just the song this country boy has been yearning for his whole life. There was no time, no place…. nothing…. ever…. that made me feel more at peace, more happy nor more excited than these few weeks of watching my kids do what they were born with. Here are some more photos that you can see for your own viewing pleasure.
Widget by Duncan due mid-November
Another super pairing…. Widget is litter mate sister to Pixel. Pixel, Widget and Duncan are proven upland hunters on grouse in woodcock. We all just returned from nearly a month hunting in the U.P. of Michigan.
This is very exciting!!! Widget bred by Duncan!! 35 day ultrasound showed around 6 puppies in the oven. These pups are going to be sweet loving family dogs that you just can’t hug enough because they make you feel so good and at the same time be incredibly intense bird dogs. Tremendous natural ability in both parents. Both are super driven dogs that are amazingly cautious once in bird scent.
Widget is a chesnut tri-color, 40 pound female and Duncan is a heavily ticked tri-color, 40 pound male. Both dogs are have excellent PennHip ratings for the breed, are in excellent health and a major asset to my breeding program.
Serious inquires only please. All great family dog homes with fenced in yards will be considered that are able to provide active recreational lives for these pups. Hunting homes get priority. Will ship anywhere in the USA. $500.00 nonrefundable deposit required towards purchase.

Hello Everyone!! As usual and then some!!— it’s been crazy busy around here with our regular full roster of dogs to train plus our 13 pooches here on the farmette. Finally this past weekend I was able to get the kids back on the job with the birds. They have out grown the field behind the house and it’s been the only place for the most part they have been working on birds thus far.
The last time I worked the llews on birds was 5-6 weeks ago I believe, so they were long over due!! Widget and Pixel were totally amazing….. hard to believe actaully!! Duncan and Piper definitely need to get back into the groove…. they were simply being over stimulated hyper little hunt’n pups that just wanted those birds. They wanted to sight point their birds. No any uncommon thing when the dogs are seeing and chasing pigeons every day in their yard, so we just need to work through that with more exposure to the birds in the right context. Now that race season has finally ended with the pigeons we can just concentrate any free time we get here and there to bird work.
These photos of Widget and Pixel were taken on my iphone…. the next few times out has be to more about training and less about photos so once I feel I have them back in the saddle— I’ll carry my Cannon Rebel camera with me again. Man! Oh man! It’s beautiful to watch these llews do their thang!!
All these points are in the previous post however every time I see my kids point it warms my heart and sparks my adrenaline. So I felt the need to highlight one point for each pup in full size. I hope you enjoy them as much as I always do.

These pups are darling bird dogs and I am so excited to see how they develop. Please keep checking back for updates on photos and their work.
