Pixel x Duncan litter update

Hi Everyone!!

So it’s been a busy week here for Paint River Llewellins!! I will try this weekend to get some individual photos of the puppies up on the site. As many of you know one of the delights of Llewellins is that they change color so much you often don’t know what you get until it’s time to pick them up!! … and sometimes your lightly speckled belton turns nearly a solid color as one of my recent puppy owners found out!! So I don’t like to guarantee any coloring on the beltons. And we have four beltons in this litter!! Over the next month it will be clear as to what colors they will be but this breeding last year and Duncan’s other breeding showed him to be very dominate in the breeding. All tri-beltons ended up being heavily ticked just like their papa!! Which I personally love.

At present the best I can tell we have a tri-color female with several patch markings, a black and white female with a face patch, a belton female, 3 belton males!!, a black and white male with nearly a full hood and a body patch, and a tri-color male with a small eye patch. All these pups are likely to get MUCH dark in the weeks ahead and that’s part of the fun of watching this breed grow!! So please be patient because before long you’ll have so many photos in your inbox you’ll have to buy more memory for your computer 🙂

Oh!! And hopefully we will have a litter theme this weekend too!!

Paint River’s Pixel Levi was bred to Paint River’s Duncan Levi on 10/2/14. Ultrasound on 11/6/14 showed 5-6 puppies!! Due date is 12/4/14. Puppies going to their new homes the last week in January — first week in February. At this time this is the only litter planned until next winter so if you’ve are in the market for a Paint River pup this is your chance!!! We do the best we can to have pups born between November and February so your first hunting season with your Llewellin Setter can be a full throttle experience. Next winter we will have repeat breedings of both—Paint River’s Pixel Levi and Paint River’s Widget Levi to Paint River’s Duncan Levi. These breedings have proven to produce outstanding bird dogs. ALL parents are incredible grouse and woodcock dogs in excellent health.

Paint River Updates as of Nov. 5th

Hello All!!

Well it’s been a whirlwind!! 5 solid weeks in the UP hunting grouse and woodcock with my 7 llewellin setters. Best 5 weeks of my life!! I have so many photos to get up on the site to share with you but it will take me some time to do so given the number of photos I have and how much work (dogs to train) I have since I’ve been away from home. We will continue to squeeze in 2-3 hunts a week here in the Catskills of NY but we are bummed that our season in the UP has come to a close.

Here are a few photos of Pixel and Duncan. These are the parents to the upcoming litter due on December 4th. We have several paid reservations and several other inquiries. Please inquiry if you are interested. This is a repeat breeding and should produce fantastic family hunting dogs!!

BREEDING ANNOUNCEMEN: PIXEL BY DUNCAN

Hello Paint River Llewellin fans!!!

Exciting news!! Pixel and Duncan were bred yesterday giving us a rough due date of December 4th, 2014. This would put pups going to their new homes the last week of December for those picking up their pups. Of course this time table is subject to a week one way or the other until they are actually born.

We will keep you posted on Pixel’s progress as we will see in a month or so if she is indeed pregnant. In the meantime, we still have a whole month of fun UP grouse and woodcock hunting to enjoy!!

Hopefully I’ll get some photos up at some point. Stay tuned and if you are interested in a pup from this litter please ask!! This is a repeat breeding and we were incredbily happy with the first litter. Check out our videos of The Cameras litter for the type of fun you are in store for!!

Paint River Llewellin breeding update

I know we have many of you that are very excited to hear when Pixel is coming into heat…. we hope that this will be really soon!! She usually goes in every 6 months and six months ago today she was in heat so… any time now we hope. While we are excited to have our next litter of pups I am also happy that she’s a little late since last hunting season she was very preggers while we were out in the UP. She hunted every day but we kept all her hunts to around or under an hour. One of my favorite pointing photos of all time is the picture of Pixel pointing a grouse in the UP 50 days pregnant with with giant belly and split tail. My respect for these dogs and their instinct work ethic is second to none. So Pix will enjoy long hunts for our full 5 week hunting adventure this year and get to do some nice hunting in NY for a week or two hopefully before nestling in for the arrival of her next pups. I will post when we have a breeding date but as of now looks like her and Duncan are going to have their romantic date under the stars in the UP.

Pre-season training for our Llews

We haven’t gotten in as much as pre-season bird training as we would have liked due to working so much to enable our time away in the UP for 5 weeks but all the Llews are seeing birds at least once a week and receiving conditioning 3-4 days a week. After our first week in the UP I think we’ll be look’n pretty darn good! Here are a few pre-season photos our Llewellins doing their bird dog thang in the Catskills of NY. Enjoy!

Omiimii makes her point

If you are truly a bird dog lover then you know after one week of doing 10-30 minutes bird workouts in the training fields after work with your 7.5 month old pup and you are getting the following response — then you know I’m going to sleep every night with a smile on my face. After a week in the grouse woods this dog is going to be bringing me to tears with such joy.

Omiimii starts her bird work

Today is the third time in the past week I have had Omi out in the training fields on birds. She is one smart little Llew!! The first time out she curiously found the birds and watched them fly away. The second time out she pointed her two birds without much flare and then today she really came alive on her points and at the same time was amazingly cautious once she got into scent. Here are a few photos of her hunting and pointing. Omiimii turned 7 months last week. I haven’t owned a Llewellin yet that hasn’t completely understood the game and don’t it well after just a few times out. This pup will get her instincts tested in a big way in just a couple fast months away.

A week with Omiimii

Well our newest addition has been with us for over a week now and she’s been a bundle of fun!! She is certainly full of herself and slid right into sync with the rest of the pack. She’s been going to work with me every day, learning the ropes and a lot of hang time. Here’s a photo of her sleeping with the pack in bed while we all get cozy during watching the Olympics.

It’s not easy NOT keeping a pup from your own litters specially when the breeder is incredibly pleased with how they all turned out— which certainly was the case for me with the most recent litters in The Cameras and The Gizmos. Duncan’s new little girlfriend is darling and we are enjoying her first moments here very, very much. She’s been hanging out with all the adult Llews today….. what a riot this little pip-squeak is!!
